Aksys Games announced Zero Escape Volume 3 will arrive on the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS for a planned summer 2016 release.
Developed by Spike Chunsoft, the game is the third in a series of acclaimed visual novels. The first entry, 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, was released exclusively for the 3DS in 2010 and later ported to iOS in 2013. Virtue’s Last Reward served as the second game in the series, releasing for both the Vita and the 3DS in 2012.
Zero Escape follows a group of strangers who have been kidnapped and taken to a mysterious location. With no knowledge of how they got there, the strangers are told the only way to escape is to solve a series of puzzles while betraying or helping each other. Over the course of the game players will solve the mystery of their imprisonment and why they were chosen to be kidnapped.
Last year, series creator Kotaro Uchikoshi announced development of Zero Escape Volume 3 was delayed due to poor sales in Japan. Soon after, fans took to social media in support of the game in an effort called Operation Bluebird. Aksys also confirmed the game will feature Japanese and English audio. Aksys will work closely with the Japanese development team so both the North American and Japanese versions can be published closer together.
The Zero Escape series features some of the best storytelling around. Virtue’s Last Reward was an incredible visual novel featuring branching stories, multiple endings, and clever puzzles. It looks as if the efforts of fans to bring attention to a potential third entry paid off. Now the long wait for Volume 3 begins.
