Sega announced Yakuza 6: The Song of Life releases on March 20, 2018 in America and Europe for PlayStation 4.
The launch edition of the game will be available for $59.99 while an “After Hours Premium Edition” will be available for $89.99. The limited launch edition of the game includes a hardcover art book which acts as a disc holder.
The premium edition is meant as a classy send off for a true yakuza. It includes a hardcover art book; two 280ml bar glasses featuring Kiryu’s dragon tattoo; two ice stones that can cool drinks, one is branded with the flame heat action icon and the other is branded with the Japanese “kiwami” heat action icon; two Tojo Clan branded drink coasters; and a collectible outer box to house the items.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is the final chapter of Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima. Kiryu has been the main protagonist of the Yakuza franchise since the first game’s release on PlayStation 2 in 2005. Because this is the first Yakuza game developed from the ground up for the PlayStation 4, it uses the new Dragon Engine. The engine allows for improved physics, animations, visuals, and seamless transitions. As a series first, every line of dialogue has been fully voice in Japanese to give players an authentic experience.
Yakuza 6 follows Kiryu getting out of prison after a three-year sentence. He finds out that Haruka, his surrogate daughter, is missing from the orphanage he looks after. Kiryu’s search leads him to Kamurocho, where Haruka is in a coma after being hit by a car. She has also given birth to a son Kiryu must look after.
Kiryu’s quest takes him to the seaside town of Onomichi, Hiroshima where the local yakuza have their own secrets. Yakuza 6 incorporates the brutal combat and open-world distractions fans have come to love from the series. As the last part of this decade-long saga, Sega has a lot to live up to.
