XtracPads Ripper XXL Review

The XtracPads Ripper XXL Desktop Gaming Mat just might be the biggest mouse and keyboard mat the gaming world has ever seen. The dimensions on this gaming surface are 36″ wide and 18″ high, which perfectly fits the average sized computer table. The idea behind this isn’t just to have a giant mouse pad, but a large gaming surface to allow you to shift around your keyboard, mouse and hands wherever you like on your table to have a smooth and comfortable gaming experience.

What is the Ripper XXL?

When trying to fully understand what the Xtrac Ripper XXL is, think of a very well manufactured soft gaming mouse pad and then think of it’s King Kong sided cousin. It’s three feet long and a foot and a half tall, specifically designed to take up most of the space of an average sized computer desk. Because it’s so large, it’s not just a mouse pad, it’s a gaming surface because your other peripherals like your keyboard or gaming controller will rest on top of it as well.

The unit is shipped in a plastic tube that unrolls for you to place on the surface of your choice. The quiet cloth surface is very smooth and comfortable to rest your wrists on and the edges are frey resistant. On the bottom of the Ripper XXL is a rubberized backing, ensuring that the gaming mat won’t be sliding around your desk. Once you see it, you’ll first be kind of blown away by how big it is, then you’ll feel the difference when comparing it to just having your wrists and keyboard on your desk. It’s a tremendous difference!

Performance

The Ripper XXL on my Desk

The Ripper XXL on my Desk

There are really three factors at play when I evaluate the performance of the Ripper XXL from Xtrac. First – does it fit? As you can see from the screenshot, yes, it does fit rather perfectly on my computer desk. It looks great, it fits wonderfully and it doesn’t slide around at all. Second – is it comfortable? The answer once again is a resounded yes, the cloth feels magnificent under my wrists and moving my hands around along with my keyboard and mouse offers no resistance or discomfort. Third – how does my mouse perform? Well, for this review I used my slick ROCCAT Savu mouse (Be sure to read the review here) and it performed better than ever. The surface was just made with sensitive gaming mice in mind and blended control and “glideability” perfectly. If this surface was just a mousepad it’d still be getting excellent marks for performance.

Cost

The Ripper XXL runs for $26.99 at Amazon, which is a very fair price for this quality product. Considering I’ve dropped that much, if not more, for other gaming mousepads, this Ripper XXL which is a true gaming surface for my desk has tremendous dollar value. I thought to myself, after having used it for a week, what I’d be wiling to pay for this product and I thought in and around the $30-$35 mark would be considered pretty fair. Since it retails below that mark, the Ripper XXL gets excellent marks for cost/value.

Editor’s Choice Award

The XTracPads Ripper XXL gaming mat is a tremendous product! I wasn’t just satisfied after reading about the product and trying it out for myself, I was genuinely impressed with a quality product.

If you’re looking for more than just a solid mousepad and want a really nice gaming surface, then look no further than the Ripper XXL. It’s very well priced and is something that, if you use a PC regularly for any purpose, you’ll use every single day. I tend to rank items of this nature (things you use every single day) regardless of their actual use as being very important in not just your PC gaming experience, but your overall computing experience. To enhance that, definitely pick up the Ripper XXL, we’re giving it an Editor’s Choice Award for delivering the goods.

The price of the product on Amazon was well under what I'd be willing to pay for it.

A very well made product that has frey resistant edges and a solid rubberized bottom. It should last you many years assuming you don't try to chew on it.

I couldn't have asked for it to perform any better and really couldn't find a single thing it could have done better!
