Xbox One

Xbox One was unveiled as the next-generation Xbox console at an event Tuesday on the Xbox campus in Redmond, Wash.

The Xbox Reveal presentation revealed the new console along with new games, entertainment and functions of the Xbox One.

Xbox One will not be an always-online machine. Core features will require an internet connection but it will not be necessary to play the console.

[adsense250itp]The next-generation Xbox boasts an 8-core CPU with 8 GB of RAM with a 500 GB HDD. Xbox One also features WiFi Direct, USB 3.0, a Blu-ray disc drive, HDMI input and output and 802.11n wireless.

The specs allow the Xbox One to use multitasking capabilities for the system’s Snap Mode. The mode allows users to perform multiple tasks at once. On stage, Microsoft showed the console playing a movie and running Internet Explorer on the same screen.

Xbox Live is getting an update with 300,000 servers backing up the online service that is even more important for the next-gen console. Users will be able to store their saves, movies and music to a cloud storage system.

The latest iteration of Kinect was also shown alongside the Xbox One. The updated Kinect features improved motion and person detection, the ability to see in the dark and full 1080p HD.

Microsoft has introduced more than 40 new design innovations to the new controller as opposed to the Xbox 360’s controller. The new controller has a similar look with a more ergonomic design.

Xbox One will also include the ability to view live television. Watching ESPN is more innovative thanks to the console’s Snap Mode while a new partnership with the NFL will make watching football more interactive than ever.

According to Microsoft, the company has 15 exclusive titles coming to Xbox One within the console’s first year. Microsoft Studios is working on new franchises to take advantage of the latest technology.

Xbox One will not be backwards compatible with previous Xbox 360 titles.

Microsoft announced Xbox One will release later this year but no official release date was given. The company also failed to reveal pricing details for the new console.
