[adsense250itp]Xbox One will feature regular online connection checks, day one digital releases and game sharing options, Microsoft announced on the official Xbox website.
A persistent internet connection is not required to use the next-generation console. However, Xbox One can only be played offline for up to 24 hours on a primary console. Players logging in to a separate console will be able to game offline for only one hour. No offline gaming will be allowed until a connection is re-established. Watching live TV or disc-based movies does not require an established online connection.
Microsoft recommends a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps for an optimal experience. The console will be able to connect to mobile broadband networks.
In order to achieve superior wireless performance and coverage, Microsoft is building the new console with an Ethernet port, 802.11n wireless and WiFi Direct. A 5GHz wireless band can eliminate interference from other devices within the home.
Xbox One has been designed to check for updates to the system and any applications or games. The console will also know when a player has purchased new games or resold, traded in or given out a previously played game.
Players will be able to access their entire library of Xbox One games without a disc after a one-time install. The console stores the content from games digitally and through the cloud. Using this system, players will able to play their purchased games at a friend’s house simply by logging in.
A single Xbox One can be played by anyone. All users will get unlimited access to all games stored on a console. That allows for households with multiple gamers to share a single console.
Xbox One owners can give access to their game library to up to ten friends and family members. The selected users can play shared games on any Xbox One.
Microsoft will not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers or consumers for trading in used games. Players will still be able to trade in their used games at retailers. Additionally, players who receive a used game from a friend will not be charged a fee to transfer the game to their account. In order for a game to be transferred to another user, the players involved must have been friends for at least 30 days.
Microsoft will offer digital purchases on games the day of release. Disc-based games will still be available at traditional retail outlets in addition to being available digitally.
