The next-generation Xbox console will be revealed by Microsoft at an event on May 21, Major Nelson announced on his blog.
Microsoft will hold the event on the Xbox campus in Redmond, Wash. at 10 a.m. P.T. The Xbox Reveal press conference will be streamed live on Xbox.com, Xbox Live and broadcast live in the U.S. and Canada on Spike TV.
Press invites to the next-generation event suggest Microsoft president of interactive entertainment Don Mattrick will host the event.
[adsense250itp]The event will likely focus on the console itself with Microsoft unveiling the vision of the console and its future. The company is expected to show how the new console will work with entertainment beyond gaming and any connection it will have to Windows 8.
Microsoft will share more on the lineup of games in the works for the next-gen console at its E3 keynote conference three weeks later, according to the post by Major Nelson.
Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 at a similar event in February. The press conference did reveal the next-generation console but failed on most accounts. Microsoft has the benefit of learning from the Sony event.
Rumors regarding the next-generation Xbox have been wide-spread for months. Supposed specs for the console have been reported and games for “next-generation consoles” have been announced. Check out all of Gaming Illustrated’s next Xbox coverage here.
