WWE 2K14

WWE 2K14 is set to release Oct. 29 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, according to a Take-Two financial report.

The next installment in the storied WWE wrestling game franchise is being developed by Yuke’s, the same developer that worked on previous WWE titles, and Visual Concepts. WWE 2K14 will be the first game published by 2K Sports since the acquisition of the WWE license by its parent company, Take-Two.

2K Sports, a company that is already known for their NBA 2K and MLB 2K series of sports games, is looking to solidify their brand further by aiding in the development of yet another popular sports video game franchise.

[adsense250itp]Although THQ, the former owner of the WWE license, filed for bankruptcy this past January, THQ’s former WWE development team (previously known as the “THQ Fight Team”) is being brought back for the latest WWE title. WWE 2K14 likely will not be too radical a departure from previous games.

Stephanie McMahon, WWE’s Executive Vice President of Creative Development, previously confirmed wrestling personality Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be the cover athlete of WWE 2K14. This will mark his second appearance as a WWE cover athlete.

Take Two’s five-year exclusive contract with WWE originally came with the announcement that the next WWE game would be titled WWE 14 in keeping with the naming scheme of previous WWE games. The name was later changed to better reflect 2K Sports’ involvement in the new WWE game.

Though details on the game itself have been relatively sparse, 2K Sports’ COO David Ismailer stated “the WWE series is a great addition to our stable of triple-A titles” and promised to “capture the excitement of WWE and marry it with the same commitment to authenticity and entertainment that we give to our NBA 2K and MLB 2K franchises.”
