In an update about its slate of WWE games, 2K Games announced WWE 2K Battlegrounds, an arcade style wrestling game scheduled to release this fall.
The new WWE game will be a departure from the WWE 2K series, ditching realism for over-the-top gameplay designed to be easy for anyone to pick up and play.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is being developed by Saber Interactive, the same studio behind NBA 2K Playgrounds. The teaser trailer for the game can be viewed below.
2K also revealed it will not release a WWE 2K simulation game in 2020, instead opting to delay production time “with a renewed focus on quality and fun.”
In an effort to create an improved experience, 2K has hired Patrick Gilmore to serve as Executive Producer and oversee the development of WWE 2K games. Gilmore previously worked on Amazon’s New World, and his credits include Medal of Honor, Killer Instinct, and Disney’s Aladdin.
