GRAPHICS
Some nicely detailed stadiums can be found here. Player details and animations are good, but nothing amazing. However, the game runs at a steady framerate and it is always easy to see what is going on during the match, definitely important characteristics for a soccer game.
SOUND
Good music in the menus put the player in the mood for some soccer action. The sound effects found in the different game modes are simple and effective, but never annoying. The commentary is nothing spectacular but it still helps draw the player into the game.
GAME PLAY
The first thing that you should know about World Tour Soccer 06 is that it is not a realistic soccer simulation. Compared to many other popular soccer games, like Winning Eleven, WTS06 is definitely a much more simple version of the worlds most popular sport. However, this is not a bad thing. Each game has its own target audience. WTS06 is incredibly easy to pick up at any time and play for a few minutes, and also has enough content and modes to keep you engrossed for hours at a time.
WTS06 contains a bunch of different modes, each of which present some special rules or requirements and help mix things up a bit. For example, one mode requires you to pass to all of your players before you can take a shot on goal, while another mode rewards points for passing, goals, stylish play, and good defense. Standard soccer is available as well, so you don’t need to play with funky rules if you don’t want to, but it definitely does add a nice mix to things. It is definitely fun going from nation to nation, trying to get as many style points as possible and unlocking medals and trophies. WTS06 is a fast paced game with tight controls and feels just right for gaming on the go.
LONGEVITY
WTS06 supports multiplayer for two players either on Ad-hoc wireless or Infrastructure online play. GameSharing is included, but it provides you friends with a single player demo only, so if you want to play local multiplayer, you friends will need their own copies. The single player game provides enough content to keep you interested for a long time. There are numerous medals and trophies to win in a bunch of different modes, so as long as you are into the fast paced gameplay, you will keep coming back for more.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Like stated above, World Tour Soccer 06 is not a realistic soccer simulation for your PSP. If that is what you are looking for, look elsewhere. However, if you are a soccer fan that is looking for a fast paced game that is accessible for many and great for playing on the go, WTS06 is the game you are looking for.
