World of WarCraft Cataclysm Preview: Goblin Race
In this World of WarCraft Cataclysm preview we’ll take a look at the new Horde race, The Goblins. The starting missions of these zany characters will definitely make them a quick favorite among WoW regulars.
The Goblin race has already been in the World of WarCraft for some time, they were just unplayable by players and mostly found in Booty Bay, available for quests for both the Horde and Alliance. Now, they are unlocked and playable as part of the Horde. For many WoW fans, being able to access a new playable race is a huge deal, so we’re going to give you a quick look at this race.
Warning: SPOILERS!
The first thing we should tell you is that there’s a lot of humor involved with the Goblins. Most of the races take on a certain aspect of a real life culture, and here in WoW, it’s mimicking elements of New York City and parts of Jersey. Goblins have a nice thick “Forgedda-bout-it” accent and parts of their home island are absolutely toxic (hence the New Jersey humor). You’ll start off as a guy looking to make it in the world, using your cunning and creative super belt (officially called the Goblin All-in-1-der-Belt”) to rise the ranks and help others try to get out from under the grasp from a greedy goblin lord. The All-in-1-der-Belt will come in handy when you are in a serious bind during combat, as it offers a rocket barrage which shoots of rockets dealing fire damage with a short cool down period afterward.
Early missions are highly entertaining and it’s definitely recommended to read through all the dialog because some of this stuff is easily the funniest in the history of World of WarCraft. You’ll fall in and out of love with a sexy Goblin and take revenge when she breaks your heart. You’ll even get to be a part of the big Goblin football-like sporting event and be close to winning the game … right up until the evil Dragon Deathwing enters and lets it be known he’s pretty pissed off at the entire world. At that point, you’ll be scrambling to make sure you get off the soon to be exploding island.
There’s some great twists and turns in the story once you make it off the island that even with a spoiler warning we aren’t going to want to reveal. Needless to say you’ll have access to doing some absolutely awesome early missions (defined as before you hit level 13) which will including driving a car and one kick ass mission where you fly a helicopter in defense of a Goblin stronghold.
You’ll find the missions central to the Goblin race very ingenious and definitely something different. You won’t just kill monsters, you’ll have to lure them somehow or blow them to smithereens using special weapon items specific to a mission. Why just bash a monkey when you can give him a TNT-filled banana and watch him explode sky-high? You’ll also take on some special elite level monsters using special mission-only vehicles like the “flying machine” or … well … we won’t totally spoil it for you.
The new zones are, as always, masterfully designed much like the rest of WoW. The sound effects are awesome and there’s been some absolutely hilarious humor and storytelling to make this race an absolute must-play for fans of the game.
