Destiny 2‘s competitive multiplayer is the focus of a new trailer released by Bungie and Activision.
The trailer highlights Guardians squaring off against each other in the sequel’s various multiplayer modes. Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks are each given a moment to show off their powers and skills during the trailer.
Bungie overhauled the Crucible, Destiny’s competitive multiplayer mode, for the sequel. Unlike the original’s 6v6 action, player teams are now pared down to 4v4. Control, Countdown, and Survival are just a few of the modes to be expected in the game which will ship with around 10 new maps.
Destiny players will see a number of new weapons on display throughout the trailer. Gatling guns, pistols, submachine guns, grenade launchers, and laser rifles will be used to tear through other Guardians. Players should also expect plenty of of mayhem when unleashing new supers to devastate the enemy team.
Destiny 2 releases on Sept. 6 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on Oct. 24 for PC.
As is usually the case with Destiny, changes to the Crucible have been met with a wide range of opinions. Bungie’s switch to shotguns and snipers being on the same ground as rocket launchers and heavy weapons altered a three-year trend with Destiny’s gameplay. Long cooldowns were criticized during last month’s beta but Bungie stated the build used during that period was an old one.
For this new trailer, it seems that Activision is marketing Destiny 2’s multiplayer in the same way it would Call of Duty. The coupling of hectic gameplay, rock music, and Lord Shaxx’s glee at the bloodbath that is the Crucible mean Bungie is serious about Destiny 2’s competitive scene.
