Ubisoft Reveals Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Season Pass

Ubisoft revealed plans this week for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag‘s Season Pass. The season pass for Black Flag will include the single-player story “Freedom Cry“, customizable items, and new multiplayer characters at a 20% discount.
The Black Flag Season Pass includes the “Freedom Cry” series of missions which will follow the lead character, Edward Kenway’s first mate, Adewale and takes place 15 years after the events of Black Flag. Adewale has become a full-fledged Assassin who is shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue without any weapons or crew. Players assume the role of Adewale as he interacts with locals to assemble a crew and steal a ship to get out of Saint-Domingue. As he explores Saint-Domingue, Adewale becomes drawn to the Maroon slave community and decides to free them and kill their captors. The nine single-player story missions add three new hours of gameplay to Black Flag.

The Season Pass also includes additional single player missions, weapons, skins and collectibles to augment the single-player experience. Finally, players can unlock new character options in Black Flag’s multiplayer.
The Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Season Pass will be available at the game’s launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Players buying Black Flag’s Season Pass can save 20% off the individual DLC prices. The Season Pass will retail for $19.99.
Gamer and critic response to Assassin’s Creed 3 were muddled and varied widely. Black Flag leans heavily towards the naval combat aspect from AC3 which may be good or bad depending on who you ask. However, the next-gen footage looks promising for Black Flag (even if it did crash during the Sony E3 conference). Who knows, maybe Black Flag will give the series a second wind. While the Adewale missions sound promising, other “perks” included in the pass seem more like pre-order incentives than the DLC content that is traditionally included in a season pass. There is a bit of weird wording in Ubisoft’s announcements that says players get 20% off all DLC released before March 2014. Whether that means that future DLC to be released and as yet unannounced will be included in the Season Pass along with the aforementioned items is uncertain. If the Adewale story missions and the add-ons are what will comprise the bulk of the Season Pass, players may want to wait so they can pick and choose what DLC appeals to them most. It’s a bummer the Wii U won’t get any of the DLC.
