Twitch.tv announced the Free Games with Prime program, giving Twitch Prime members access to a collection of free games every month.
The program begins on March 15 for Amazon Prime members who have linked their accounts to a Twitch.tv profile.
Free Games with Prime’s first five games that will be available for free are Superhot, Shadow Tactics, Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation, Oxenfree, and Mr. Shifty. The free games will be available until March 31 and members who download them will have access to games forever.
Twitch also announced the lineup of free games for April. The five games members can download that month will be Tales from the Borderlands, SteamWorld Dig 2, Kingsway, Tokyo 42, and Dubwars. The choice to start this new program was due to the response of the Twitch Prime Indie Amplifier program. The program showed off two different indie games, allowed players to vote on which one was their favorite, and opened up the game as a free download for Twitch Prime members.
All eight titles that were featured in the Indie Amplifier program will be made available for free over the next few months with Free Games with Prime. Shadow Tactics, which won its round and Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation are the first of the Indie Amplifier titles to be made available.
Quick Take
Twitch.tv, the premiere site for gaming-related livestreams, joins Microsoft and PlayStation in offering up a free games service for paid subscribers. Twitch Prime has become an enticing offer for most gamers as many publishers use the platform to offer exclusive rewards and cosmetic items across a number of games. The lineup of free games is heavily oriented towards indie games right now so it will be interesting to see how it evolves over time, similar to Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus.
