Top 5 Fun Teams to Use in NBA 2K13

NBA 2K13

NBA 2K13 has been on store shelves for more than two weeks and the NBA season is just around the corner. As hype for the new season builds up, more and more players are flocking to 2K Sports’ latest masterpiece. Gamers who have not been keeping up with the trials and tribulations of the off-season may not be prepared to pick up and play the basketball sim. This list will help players choose a team built for winning in NBA 2K13.

Of course, the Dream Team and other vintage rosters included in the game can provide the NBA enthusiast with hours of memorable moments. However, the more contemporary NBA has several teams with plenty of talent on their rosters. Most players are probably going to choose the defending champion Miami Heat due to the sheer dominance of LeBron James. The new look Los Angeles Lakers, who added Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to a lineup already including Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace, are also a popular pick. Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are also getting more and more followers, especially for those who view the Heat and Lakers as the Evil Empire. For that reason, those teams have been omitted from this list of the most fun teams to play with in NBA 2K13.

Brooklyn Nets

There is nothing quite like playing with a team that has new uniforms, a new stadium and a fresh new outlook. The Nets kept star Deron Williams this off-season to help facilitate a smooth transition to Brooklyn. After failing to acquire Howard from the Orlando Magic, the team decided to give D-Will a star running mate in Joe Johnson. Breaking down defenses with Williams can open up former Atlanta Hawks star Johnson for open looks. Brook Lopez has the size to be a solid shot blocker and post up player if used properly. With MarShon Brooks and Andray Blatche providing potential off the bench, Brooklyn is a formidable NBA 2K13 opponent. Plus, Jay Z is part owner of the team and executive producer of the game so that has to count for something.

Philadelphia 76ers

Jrue Holiday drives in NBA 2K13

The 76ers were one of the most athletic teams in the NBA last season but are much more balanced this year. Thaddeus Young and Jason Richardson still provide the team with players who can leap out of the gym. The acquisition of Andrew Bynum gives the team the legitimate low post threat and defensive plug it had been lacking. While Bynum can be a lazy defender at times during games, the virtual Bynum is not prone to those lapses. Dorell Wright, Nick Young and Spencer Hawes should be on the floor for those who love to spread the floor. It will free them up for open shots from the outside and clear the lane for the team’s finishers.

New York Knicks

While Lin-sanity has left the team, the Knicks still have a solid roster of talent that plays better in a video game than on a real team. Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire provide the offensive star power needed to win in games. Last season, the Knicks had better chemistry when one or both of those stars was out but chemistry issues are not reflected in video games. The duo of Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby provides the best defense at the center position in the NBA. J.R. Smith is another great player who can explode offensively if he hits his first few shots. Veterans Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton and Rasheed Wallace make this team one of the best in NBA 2K13.

Denver Nuggets

Much like the Clippers, the Nuggets are stacked with superior athleticism. Ty Lawson brings ridiculous speed to the point guard position. Center JaVale McGee is a shot blocker who can outrun almost any big man to the other side of the court for spectacular dunks. The team also acquired swingman Andre Iguodala in the off-season  adding a go-to scorer on offense who fits in perfectly with the Nuggets style of play. Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Corey Brewer fill in supporting roles perfectly. For a change of pace, Andre Miller comes off the bench to provide some solid depth.

Los Angeles Clippers

Blake Griffin throws down in NBA 2K13

The Clippers are not called “Lob City” for nothing. With Chris Paul running the show and Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan able to finish strong in the middle, the alley-oops come easy and often. New dribbling controls make Paul nearly impossible to defend. The athleticism of the two big men Griffin and Jordan is unmatched in the NBA. Players like Matt Barnes, Lamar Odom and Chauncey Billups give this team unparalleled depth, a feature often overlooked in video games. Add shooters like Jamal Crawford and Caron Butler to the mix and the Clippers are a perfect video game team.

Of course, roster moves and injuries during the season could make teams look quite different and cause changes to this list. Until then, these teams give gamers a chance to take down the NBA elite and provide some highlight reel plays in doing so.

As a huge NBA 2ker and lifelong Bulls fan, I can’t believe you didn’t include the DRose led Bulls. With the new signature skills Rose is an unstoppable force and he has some nice pieces around him that make the team a blast to play with. The other team I have enjoyed using is the New Orleans Hornets so that I could play with A. Davis and Austin Rivers. A great young duo that could really grow into something great.
