Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.

Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, the game tells the origin story of Lara Croft, who is more of a hardened survivor than a raider of tombs.

The Tomb Raider reboot is a much darker and grittier version than fans of the series are used to. The action platformer takes place on an isolated island after the ship Lara is aboard is wrecked in a violent storm. Lara must track down the other survivors and escape the island while fighting off animal inhabitants and dangerous mercenaries.

The solo campaign in Tomb Raider clocks in at around 12 to 15 hours of gameplay. The game also contains multiplayer game modes.

Tomb Raider is the first game in the franchise to release since the downloadable title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light debuted in 2010 and the first full-fledged console title since 2008′s Tomb Raider: Underworld. The franchise started when the original Tomb Raider released in 1996 for Sega Saturn, PlayStation and PC.

The game introduces a new TressFX hair-rendering system created specifically for the game by Crystal Dynamics and AMD.

PC players will want to check out the PC specs necessary to run the game on their system. Crystal Dynamics worked with Nixxes in developing Tomb Raider for PC. Square Enix and the development teams wanted to provide an experience extensively optimized to take advantage of powerful PC systems.

Tomb Raider is rated M for Mature, a first for the franchise.
