Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia announced themes are coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita during a pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference this fall in system updates.
Themes will arrive with the v2.00 update for the PS4 and v3.30 update for PS Vita. Sony shared a few images of Japanese themes to whet PlayStation owner’s appetites until the highly requested feature arrives.
PS Vita users are also getting the “Live from PlayStation” app this fall. Vita owners will be able to watch PS4 livestreams from Twitch and Ustream on the go. As of May 2014, more than 150 million streams were watched via “Live from PlayStation.”
Themes are a great feature on last-gen consoles but noticeably absent from newer consoles. Being able to change the static blue background on the PS4 to anything would be welcome at this point. The price breakdown on themes and whether they go Cross-Buy will be interesting to see.
