“There’s a lot of magic between the third Witcher and Xbox One ” he exclaimed “we felt it since receiving development kits some time ago. A lot of effort on our side was made to usher the potential of the next generation with a new kind of RPG experience – for the first time we could open the world to the extent we wanted and tell the story with the flair it deserves.”
Also present was John Mamais, the head of production. He said he and the team were very excited to use the Xbox One specifically to showcase the power of the game and the engine powering it.
“Microsoft delivered some pretty amazing technology and we’re extremely excited that we’ll be able to show the full potential of REDengine 3 [the engine used to make the game]. No boundaries, no technological limitations – the hardware’s pure power and our creative vision will produce some outstanding visuals and unparalleled gameplay.”
Based on the popular fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, the third entry in the critically acclaimed gaming series will continue on from the events from the previous game: The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings. The game will also be the conclusion of the story of Geralt of Rivia: the main protagonist and aptly named Witcher of the series.
Following the formula of previous titles, the game will feature an emphasis on tactical combat with redefined mechanics and a non-linear story driven greatly by decisions players make during the course of the game.
The game will also feature a huge open world environment 35 times larger than it was in the previous game and which will not be encumbered by loading screens. The world is so expansive that, according to CD Projekt RED, players will be required to travel by boat and horseback in order to travel across it.
As previously announced, the game will also be released for the PC and PS4 sometime next year as well.
CD Projekt RED has released a trailer showcasing the game on the official Youtube channel for the Witcher games. The trailer can be seen below.
