Sims 3

The Sims are surely taking over. First starting on the PC, now onto consoles and even Facebook, the world famous simulation game has leaked into every form of entertainment. And just when you think there isn’t an expansion out there that they haven’t covered, think again! Yes, Maxis has announced that a new “stuff” pack will be released in January 2013 for Sims 3: 70s, 80s and 90s Stuff. What is it? Well, lots and lots of stuff from the 70s, 80s and 90s, of course! Not much is known about the new addition to the customizable digital universe, expect that highlights from each decade will be available. Jean jackets, disco, arcade machines, Nixon, the whole nine yards will take you back in time!

This will be the game’s eighth “stuff”  pack, not to mention the other eight full game expansions including Pets, Supernatural and Late Night. This pack is perhaps one of the most expansive, providing items and clothing spanning thirty years! But will the stuff be worth it? Patterns of add-ons are being announced and released left and right it seems, with thousands of fans spending loads every few months in 2012 alone. The Sims creators haven’t stopped there either. Already, a teaser for another pack was announced for a university/college themed “stuff” pack, to be released in January 2013 as well. Beer pong anyone? Ok, that’s just me.

The same could be said about other familiar games, especially World of Warcraft, Call of Duty and Battlefield 3. Many games have so much extra content, and have such a wide fan base, that it wouldn’t matter how many times one has to visit a game store to buy a new expansion or new version of their game. As long as the fans want it, they’ll keep coming, right?

Perhaps the demand for more drives the pour out of frequently released expansions. It definitely increases your game’s replay value, and with an eighth expansion for Sims 3, I suppose it does that 8 fold. But nonetheless, the Sims aren’t going anywhere for a while… just back in time, then onto college. But it’ll leave you with p-l-e-n-t-y of “stuff” to do, so keep your PCs, Macs and all the consoles the Sims have invaded running. January will come up fast, and these Sims are ready to play!
