The Order 1886 will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. No release date has been announced.
Set in Victorian-Era London, The Order 1886 will place the player in an elite order of knights who fight a centuries-old war against the supernatural. The game will have a distinctly steampunk feel akin to The League of Extraordinary Gentleman giving players access to advanced weapons and gadgets in an alternate version of history.
Like the Assasin’s Creed series, The Order 1886 will combine elements from actual history including real locations, figures and events with twists on familiar myths and legends. Use of actual cinemetography techniques will emphasize character performance to create a more realistic and immersive gameplay experience.
The Order 1886 will be a third-person shooter though little information has been revealed by the developer as to the type of supernatural entities the player will be shooting. Ready at Dawn has intentionally released minimal information about enemies the player will face in the game preferring to let everyone speculate for the moment.
Ready at Dawn is no stranger to third-person shooters or PlayStation exclusives. The developer previously released God of War Chains of Olympus and God of War Ghost of Sparta to the PSP. Having previously developed titles in popular franchises, it will be interesting to see what the developer will do with a title of their own. Given PlayStation’s history with exclusive games, The Order 1886 will likely provide strong competition for exclusives under development for the Xbox One. It is also likely that some reference to the game was included in the much talked about Greatness Awaits commercial which features characters and elements from upcoming PS4 titles. The zeppelin in the sky at the end of the commercial may be one such reference.
