Tess from The Last of Us

Naughty Dog has already revealed Joel and Ellie as the main character of next year’s survival thriller The Last of Us. The PlayStation Blog gave new details about a previously unknown character named Tess.

Tess is another survivor for the upcoming post-apocalyptic action adventure and is partners with Joel. She lives in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and operates in the black market. According to the blog entry posted by Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli, her personality reflects her position as she possesses the confidence and negotiating skills necessary to be a smart strategist. Tess and Joel are well-known in the criminal underworld for their ruthlessness.

[adsense250itp]Both Tess and Joel believe in the dog-eat-dog philosophy, which is a smart theory when the most of the world has died in a plague and martial is in effect. Tess has a strong trust in and loyalty towards Joel but is unsure if Joel has the same feelings for her.

Tess adds more depth to The Last of Us. Joel shares a father-daughter like relationship with Ellie but Tess is a potential love interest. It will be interesting to see how their connection plays out under their unfortunate circumstances.

The black market is another new aspect of the game that is of interest to gamers. This reveals the hardened criminal side of Joel. Also, it adds tons of possibilities for side missions and objectives.

Annie Wersching provides the voice for Tess. Wersching previously worked on the hit television series, 24, and soap opera, General Hospital. She also went through motion capture sessions to truly play the character. The blog post included a video with behind-the-scenes footage of the mo-cap experience.

Last week, the official release date for The Last of Us was unveiled. The game comes out on May 7, 2013 exclusively for PlayStation 3.
