Naughty Dog announced the upcoming post-apocalyptic title The Last of Us has an official release date of May 7, 2013.
The Last of Us was revealed in a teaser trailer at last year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards. One year later, it finally has a firm release date. A new trailer for the game debuted at last week’s 2012 Spike TV Video Game Awards.
The third-person action game follows Joel and Ellie as they fight for survival in a world devastated by a fungal plague. Set 20 years after the plague has taken its toll on the world, the pair battle gangs of survivors, zombie-like humans infected by the plague, military law and more.
In addition, the pre-order bonus for players who pre-order The Last of Us through GameStop was unveiled. GameStop pre-orders will come with The Survival Pack. Gamers will get bonus XP, a melee attack booster, in-game cash, customizable items and two bonus skins that can be unlocked after finishing the game’s single-player campaign.
The Survival Pack offers subtle hints at multiplayer in The Last of Us. Extra skins and bonus XP show that multiplayer elements will not exactly be reinventing the wheel. However, with such interesting subject matter and variety of weapons available, Naughty Dog has the ability to create some unique game types.
Like Uncharted, The Last of Us will be exclusive to PlayStation 3.
