The Division Incursions update is arriving on April 12 as a free download, Massive Entertainment revealed during a community livestream.
Incursions are new endgame activities created for squad play that will reward players with high-level gear. Players will also be able to trade items with this update, a feature promised before the game’s launch. The first Incursion is called Falcon Lost and is set in an underground water treatment facility that has been transformed into a stronghold by the Last Man Battalion enemy faction.
Ubisoft also detailed many of the new gameplay additions and features that will come with the update. Four gear sets will be introduced that will support certain play styles. Sentry’s Call, Striker’s Battle Gear, Path of the Nomad, and Technician’s Authority will support healing, assault focused players, precision, and more. Equipping four pieces from a single set unlocks an unannounced talent that players can use. The level cap remains at 30 but gear score is a new way to level up in the endgame. To trade loot, players can drop it on the ground for others in their party to pick up. In the Dark Zone loot can only be dropped inside the Dark Zone gates.
Assignments are being added which are small, optional side missions that update daily and will reward players with gear or Phoenix Credits. Supply drops will fall from the sky in the Dark Zone and will have players battles each other for the loot. Enemies will spawn near the loot but players don’t have to extract it because it won’t be contaminated, plus it can’t be stolen. Additionally, if players die in battle they can follow teammates with the camera to offer better support.
Falcon Lost will have a hard mode and a challenge mode. Hard mode will have a suggested level 31 gear level while challenge mode will be even tougher and have a gear level requirement to play. The Incursion also won’t have checkpoints so if the team wipes they will have to start from the beginning. Enemies will also use aerial drones while an armored personnel carrier serves as a boss and is impenetrable to bullets.
The Division has been a huge success for Ubisoft and it’s fantastic that Massive will be adding free content to extend the game’s life. A good amount of players have hit the endgame wall and are grinding out the same missions to make incremental improvements to their gear and character. Unfortunately, some players are still locked out of their accounts and game due to a crafting bug. Massive and Ubisoft are aware of the issue and say it’s at the top of their list to fix. Let’s hope some kind of compensation will be handed out, especially since the issue has affected some players since close to launch.
