The Division 2 will release on March 15, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Ubisoft first teased The Division 2 a few weeks ago as pre-E3 hype began to build up saying that more news would arrive during the show. Microsoft had the honor of showing off gameplay for the first time on its stage floor at its E3 2018 press conference.
The Division series takes place after a virus was unleashed on the population on Black Friday. The virus rapidly spread across the world and left the human population devastated. Small pockets of survivors attempt to survive the threat of infection and groups of humans that have become radicalized and deadly since the world fell apart.
The first game took place on the wintry streets of New York soon after the virus took its toll on the city. As an elite Division agent, players collected loot and attempted to restore peace and structure back to a New York City on the brink. Heavily focused on RPG elements, shooting mechanics, and loot, The Division sold well initially but it’s lack of content left players with little to do after the story was over. Developer Massive Entertainment kept supporting The Division after launch and the game still maintains a thriving community that has a new game to play in.
The Division 2 is set in Washington D.C. and the short demo teased at Microsoft’s conference included a shoot-out going down next to a crashed Air Force One. The demo ended with four Division agents running towards Capitol Hill under a hail of gunfire in an attempt to retake it. The game still seems to function and play like the original but a few new abilities were hinted at. The sequel also seems to take place in a different season, as snow was nowhere in sight.
Ubisoft will reveal more of The Division 2 at its press conference tomorrow.
