Tekken Tag Tournament 2 – Preview

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

It’s been a long time coming, but Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be here in September 2012. Not-so hot on the heels of its 1999 predecessor, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available for Sony’s PS3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and later in the year for Nintendo’s Wii.

The game although bearing the Tekken name, is quite a lot different to the main Tekken series, and brings tag-team fighting to the Tekken series for only the second time. Each player will be able to select two playable characters at the start of the game, and during combat you will be able to interchange characters as you can do in real tag-team tournaments.

Unlike in the first game however, tag-team combinations now mean that both your players may appear in the arena at any one time when performing a tag-assault. This should make for some impressive finishing moves, or moves that will seriously deplete your opponent’s health. Just as in other tag-team games, you will be able to change player at the press of a button, meaning you can change your style of play at a whim.

The game will no doubt feature the same breathtaking graphics that other Tekken games feature, along with a soundtrack the compliments the gameplay. Characters costumes will also still be customisable as in other Tekken games, and rumour has it that for the female and male characters of the game there will be up to 150 swimsuits available as DLC. As always, this game is meant to be fun, and as such these sexist traits can be taken lightly, as no doubt we will even see swimsuits for the animal and robotic players in the game.

The playable character list of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is quite huge, with around 50 playable characters been available after unlocking certain characters through the gameplay. This adds a whole new dimension to the game, with so many different combat styles now available, paired with the tag-team element, it should be a Tekken unlike no other.

There has been a whole host of downloadable content announced for Tekken Tag 2, and along with the already mentioned swimsuits, there will also be a number of extra characters exclusively available to early purchases of the game (for a limited time), plus a Snoop-Dogg level with exclusive music.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be coming soon, but whether or not it will change the way we think about or play our fighting games is something that we will have to wait and see. Based on the precious Tekken games in the series, and the first Tekken Tag Tournament, I’d say this new release will be something very special and no doubt a must buy for any fans of fighting games.

The new Beach Boys Live album is pretty cool. Not up to the standards of the 60s & 70s, but cool. - 7 hours ago
