Team Bondi Bringing Whore of the Orient to Next-Gen Consoles, PC
Team Bondi, the development studio behind L.A. Noire, revealed some small details regarding their next game, Whore of the Orient.
The company’s website displayed a screenshot and a brief background description about the new property Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara once described as “one of the great untold stories of the 20th century.”
Whore of the Orient takes place in Shanghai in 1936. According to the description, it is “the most corrupt and decadent city on the planet.” Western powers attempt to exploit the Chinese. The game will focus on members of the International Police Force, a group of Western cops aiming to keep the peace. Of course, it won’t be so simple as the force will have to deal with Chinese nationalists, the spread of Communism and the labor movement.
KMM Interactive Productions acquired assets and staff from Team Bondi in a deal last year. As part of the deal, the production company also obtained the rights to the next title from the developer. The Australian film company was founded in part by George Miller, who directed movies such as Mad Max and Happy Feet. The development team is also working on a video game tie-in for the 2013 film Mad Max: Fury Road.
Add Whore of the Orient to an ever-growing list of games expected to be ready for the next console generation. The company is also aiming to make it available for PC.
If it is anything like L.A. Noire, it will be cutting edge as far as technology. The game, released in 2011, accurately recreated 1947 Los Angeles and used a unique facial capturing system to give digital characters lifelike expressions. It has sold over 5 million units. The development team also is responsible for the 2003 PlayStation 2 hit The Getaway.
Team Bondi is looking for some help for the new project. The studio has ten open positions based out of its office in Sydney, Australia. Programmers, artists and animators are all being called upon to assist in development.
