It’s been awhile since we’ve visited Arkham in the video game universe. The last title in Rocksteady’s popular Dark Knight series, Batman: Arkham Knight, released in 2015. Although we technically won’t be back in Arkham any time soon, Warner Bros. announced two new games branching off from the series during the DC Fandome event.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will take place within the Arkham-verse, but will be set in Metropolis. Harley Quinn (presumably the same character from previous Arkham games), King Shark, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang will take on a villianized version of Superman. Each playable character will have unique abilities, and players will be able to switch between them to take advantage of those moves or play with up to three friends cooperatively.
The reveal trailer features a cinematic look at the game but no indication of what gameplay will be like. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being developed by Rocksteady and is scheduled to release in 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.
Meanwhile, WB Games Montreal is currently developing Gotham Knights, a game that appears to use Arkham-style combat that the developer says takes place in a separate world. The four-minute-long trailer features a close look at the plot details and gameplay that gamers can expect to see when Gotham Knights launches in 2021.
In Gotham Knights, Batman is dead, and it is now up to Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood to protect the citizens of Gotham. The developer previously worked on Batman: Arkham Origins in addition to DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight. The trailer showcases some new moves and abilities that come with taking control of the four heroes.
