SteelSeries Apex M800

SteelSeries announced the Apex M800 mechanical gaming keyboard, which the hardware manufacturer is touting as the world’s fastest, most customizable mechanical gaming keyboard.

The keyboard’s mechanical switches have a low-profile design that allows for quick strikes and less wasted movement. The switches deliver 25 percent faster actuation than standard mechanical keyboards. The keyboard’s N-key rollover ensures that every key press is registered.

Each key feaures surface-mounted LED, and users have a choice of 16.8 million colors. Users will be able to design lighting effects based on profile and preferences. The keyboard will also have in-game integration with select games, allowing game developers to preset layouts and color changes based on in-game events.

Individual keys are programmable to any keyboard key, mouse button, media control, application or macro. Users will also be able to record macros with the press of a button or use text-based macros. Keys can easily be remapped using a single button.

The gaming keyboard is equipped with two powered USB ports.

No release date has been announced for the Apex M800. The keyboard will be priced at $199.99.

Quick Take

SteelSeries is one of the premeire manufacturers of gaming accessories, and the Apex M800 is a shining example of the company’s innovative spirit. The keyboard delivers the responsiveness and feel of a mechanical keyboard, but the newly designed low-profile switches make it more practical and gamer-friendly than its competitors.
