Star Wars Battlefront to Focus on Original Trilogy

/ Dec 25th, 2015 No Comments

Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront will not include any Star Wars: The Force Awakens DLC in the future, according to a spokesperson for EA and DICE.

When asked by a fan on Twitter if content from Episode 7 will be in Battlefront, EA’s Star Wars Twitter account replied with, “Our team is focused on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront.”

EA released Star Wars Battlefront on Nov. 17, a month before the release of The Force Awakens. While the game isn’t strictly tied to the story of the original Star Wars trilogy, it only features heroes, villains, vehicles, and locations from those films. However, the recently released free DLC for the Battle of Jakku takes place right after the events of the Return of the Jedi, while the planet itself is featured prominently in The Force Awakens.

DICE’s first wave of content for Battlefront’s season pass will release in early 2016. Multiple maps, heroes and villains, modes, and tech will be added to the game. In addition to season pass content, EA and DICE will release free DLC to all Battlefront players to enjoy.

Quick Take

It’s quite surprising that EA isn’t trying to capitalize on the success of The Force Awakens by putting content from the film into Star Wars Battlefront. While the game is a bit simplistic and lacks a lot of modes, it’s still a great deal of fun. With the announcement of the focus on the original trilogy, many players seem concerned that a lot of the game’s depth is locked behind a $50 season pass or that EA could put Force Awakens content behind another paid DLC pack. Despite the sheer amount of content to mine in the original Star Wars universe, it’s still disappointing we won’t get to relive any moments from the new film in the game.
