Star Wars Battlefront Gets Release Date

/ Apr 17th, 2015 No Comments

Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront is releasing on Nov. 17, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

EA revealed the news at the Star Wars Celebration event where the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens also debuted.

DICE, developer of Battlefield 4, is working on Star Wars Battlefront. It was revealed that the game will not have a campaign mode and instead will feature a series of missions that can be played online, cooperatively, or solo. No content from the Star Wars prequel movies will be in Battlefront. Space battles are also out as the game will focus on massive land-based battles.

Battlefront will include many noteworthy elements of the Star Wars universe. Darth Vader, Boba Fett and the Millenium Falcon are shown in the reveal trailer for the game. Players will do battle on the planets Endor, Hoth, Tatooine, and Sullust. Various gameplay types and modes will allow players to experience the thrill of fighting in the Star Wars universe, along with the opportunity to battle in 40-player competitive multiplayer sessions.

Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will have early access to the free Battle of Jakku DLC. Jakku, the planet featured in The Force Awakens trailer, is the site of a Rebel victory after the Battle of Endor from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The battle will be available for players who pre-ordered on Dec. 1 and will fully release on Dec. 8 to everyone else.

Quick Take

It’s hard not to be excited about the flood of new Star Wars information coming out this week. Having Battlefront release a month before The Force Awakens is a great way for EA to cash in on building hype and feed fans’ desire for all things Star Wars. While the reveal trailer almost looks too good to be true, the lack of a true story mode is a blow to players who thrive off single player content. Hopefully the multiplayer will be fun and robust and capture the magic of previous Battlefront games.
