Star Wars Battlefront 2 Preview

Star Wars is one of the most storied film and entertainment franchises in the world. The movies have spawned novels, comics, toys, rides and video games. That is why Disney held an entire convention this year dedicated to everything Star Wars in Orlando, Fla.

I had a chance to attend the four-day Star Wars Celebration this year. It was amazing to see all the fans, cosplay and a new trailer for the next Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi (if you haven’t seen it yet, open a new tab now and head over to YouTube to watch it!). Most importantly, I attended the Star Wars Battlefront 2 panel held at the Convention Center. I bring you good news: this game is going to be amazing.

Playing Solo

The biggest reveal regarding Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the introduction of the game’s single-player campaign, a feature that was lacking in 2015’s Battlefront.

In single player, you take control of Iden Versio right after the explosion of the second Death Star. Versio is the commander of Inferno Squadron, the Imperial’s version of the most elite squad of soldiers.

Not much was said in regards to missions, but the trailer shows that players will encounter some major players of the Star Wars universe. This story is canon, so whatever is in the game will be considered a “real” part of the Star Wars universe. It will be incredibly exciting to play a completely original Star Wars story within Battlefront 2.

Wars in Space

Star Wars wouldn’t be Star Wars without its iconic space battles. That is EA DICE is bringing space battles back to the Battlefront franchise, and they will be bigger than ever.

Not only will you be able to fight in familiar space battles, you will also be able to pilot iconic “hero ships” during these missions. Everything from the Millennium Falcon to Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing and the Slave 1 ship will be part of the action. Not only will you be able to fly these ships into battle, but you will also be able to upgrade them based on your level and experience in multiplayer.

You will be able to customize and progress your hero ships and your heroes themselves. Yes, ladies and gentleman, it looks like classes are back in a new form of progression in the game beyond that standard leveling system. Players will be able to choose between officer, assault, heavy and specialist classes.

Battlefront 2 is shaping up to be much bigger and better than its predecessor, but we’ll have to hold judgment until release day. Here is hoping it lives up to the hype that the Star Wars franchise has generated for it. May the force be with it.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is expected to release Nov. 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
