Spyro Reignited Trilogy Announced

Spyro Reignited Trilogy

Activision announced Spyro the Dragon will return with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Sept. 21 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game is releasing in time for Spyro’s 20th anniversary and will include a remastered version of the first three Spyro games that originally launched on PlayStation One.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is getting the same treatment as last year’s Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which reintroduced Crash Bandicoot’s original three games to a new audience. Lead developer Toys for Bob is bringing back over 100 levels with improved environments, updated controls, brand-new lighting, and recreated cinematics. Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon will feature levels faithfully crafted from the originals. Characters are getting revamped designs and each game is receiving new levels of detail. Stewart Copeland’s original soundtracks of the games are being re-imagined while Tom Kenny, Spyro’s voice actor in the second and third games, will return to voice Spyro in the Reignited Trilogy.

“We’re deeply passionate about staying true to the legacy of the original three Spyro games with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy,” said Paul Yan, Chief Creative Officer, at Toys For Bob. “We’ve poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high definition detail. We’re bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago.”

Toys for Bob has spent the past several years developing Skylanders, the game which brought Spyro to the toys-to-life genre. Toys for Bob’s experience with Spyro and building colorful worlds and characters is likely going to make the Reignited Trilogy that much more of an exciting remaster. If the audiences embrace Spyro’s remaster like they did with Crash’s, the two mascots may return with a new entry sooner than later.
