Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be available on Wii U when the game releases Aug. 20, Ubisoft and Nintendo confirmed.

The Wii U version of the game is enhanced to take advantage of the capabilities of the GamePad controller. Touch-screen controls and motion-based inputs will fully immerse players in the stealth action. Gamers will be able to operate gadgets, execute the signature Killing in Motion moves effectively and switch weapons efficiently.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist was originally announced at last year’s E3. The game puts players in the role of Sam Fisher as he attempts to stop an international terrorist organization responsible for executing escalated attacks on the U.S. Fisher and his new group, Fourth Echelon, must take down the foreign threat by any means necessary.

The Killing in Motion ability available for Fisher caused some concern among fans of the series when the game was first announced. The move allows players to quickly move through areas by systematically killing groups of enemies. In a departure for the series, the debut trailer featured more action and less stealth.

Developer Ubisoft Toronto promises Fisher will be sneaking up on and around enemies as usual. Deadly action sequences can take place but gamers will also be able to avoid firefights altogether.

Ubisoft also recently announced the Splinter Cell series will be heading to the silver screen. In a partnership with film production company New Regency, Ubisoft will be making a movie with Tom Hardy in the lead role.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist will release in EMEA territories Aug. 22 and in the U.K. Aug. 23. It will also be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Players with a little extra cash can pre-order The Splinter Cell Blacklist Paladin Multi-Mission Aircraft Edition. The special editions available outside the U.S. include The 5th Freedom Edition, The 5th Freedom Silver Edition, The Ultimatum Edition and The Upper Echelon Day 1 Edition.
