Derek Yu‘s procedurally generated platformer Spelunky is making its way to the PlayStation 4, announced Sony at a recent press event.
[adsense250itp]BlitWorks, who brought Spelunky to PS3 and PS Vita, will again team up with Yu’s company Mossmouth to bring the game to PS4. The PS4 version will increase the graphical resolution to 1080p, allow players to upload their replays to the leaderboards, add in social features such as Daily Challenges and more.
Spelunky has received praise ever since its release on the Xbox Live Arcade in 2012. A move onto PC, PS3 and PS Vita brought the game an even larger player base. In the game, players explore massive underground worlds that change every playthrough. Gameplay is challenging but also exciting as no experience is ever the same.
Cross Buy is enabled for Spelunky. Players who have purchased the game on PS3 and Vita will be able to download the PS4 version free of charge. Those who purchase the PS4 version will have access to the other two versions as well. No release date was provided for Spelunky on PS4.
Quick Take
As one of the most successful indie titles in recent memory, Spelunky is a perfect fit on the PS4. The title has become very popular to stream and share. Considering the PS4’s streaming capabilities, Spelunky’s community with further thrive on Sony consoles.
