SpeedRunners Out Now on Steam for Early Access

/ Aug 30th, 2013 No Comments

SpeedRunners

TinyBuild and DoubleDutch Games released SpeedRunners on Aug. 26 for Steam Early Access.

SpeedRunners is a 4 player competitive platformer. The game takes place in a city full of superheroes where crime is not high enough to sustain the superhero population. Things get competitive with heroes competing to get to the crime scene first. Only one can win though. These superheroes with bad cases of ennui and in need of work will do whatever possible to prevent competing heroes from getting to the crime scene before them. The crime fighting inspired racing game pits 4 players against each other.

Gamers can compete in a number of different configurations either locally, online or a combination of the two using one screen. SpeederRunners has controller support, so all four players can play locally using Xbox controllers. Players will run, jump, slide and grapple to get ahead of their competition. SpeedRunners also features power-ups and weapons giving players some extra ammunition to gain the advantage over their foes. Maps feature interactive traps that require players to react fast so as not to lose speed.

SpeedRunner initially started as a web game. Later, DoubleDutch Games released SpeedRunner HD on Xbox Live Indie Games in 2011. The developer decided to bring the game to the PC with online support after receiving requests from fans of the game. DoubleDutch partnered with TinyBuild after announcing the PC version and its eventual Steam release last year for the games. This partnership brought TinyBuild on board to help polish up the game, handle promotion of the game and overall identity of the game. TinyBuild’s involvement resulted in the addition of new artwork, new characters and the solid trailer for the game.

Steam’s Early Access program gives Steam users the opportunity to play new games before their official release. Early Access also gives gamers a chance to help shape games that are still in development by providing feedback, notifying developers of bugs and make the game better. This program gives developers some valuable insight into how the game plays and what might need to be updated before the official release. It also gives gamers the ability to play the full game early and have a voice in how it will ultimately look upon release. Early Access gives players a chance to practice with a competitive multiplayer game like SpeedRunners.

SpeedRunners is currently available on Steam with Early Access for $9.99 with a 4 pack for $29.99 coming soon.
