On Tuesday, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced that the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console system has cumulatively sold more than 6 million units around the world. The PS4 recently released in Japan, where sales have totaled 370,000 units, dating back to February 22.
Sales for PS4 software continue to be strong, ranking in at 13.7 million copies sold. That number is a conflation of both retail sales and digital downloads from the PlayStation Store. Currently, there are over 30 titles available for the PS4. One of Sony’s first-party titles, Killzone Shadow Fall, has sold over 2.1 million copies. Other popular games for PS4 include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, FIFA14, Madden 14, and Assassin’s Creed IV. Sony has made some games for PS4 available for free for those with PlayStation Plus accounts, including Don’t Starve: Console Edition, which has reviewed well in the industry.

The console promises to sell well in 2014 with a few previously announced games expected to release this year and sell well. inFAMOUS Second Son will launch soon and is expected to be a huge smash hit for PS4. Other games coming include Metal Gear Solid V, Destiny, Watch_Dogs, The Witness, #Driveclub, and The Order 1886, as well as the regular slew of yearly EA Sports titles including FIFA and Madden.
