Skyrim 1.7 Patch and Possible PS3/PC Dawnguard Release

A beta version of the 1.7 patch for the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now available on Steam. Bethesda has reported that the updates will be available for Xbox 360 and PS3 with additional information on console patches expected later.

When the PS3 update becomes available, the 1.7 patch will include 1.6 title update features that Xbox 360 players received in June. Mounted combat, fixes for load/save crashes, and miscalculated bow damage are some of the many bug corrections included in the 1.6 patch. For the most recent 1.7 update, Bethesda’s blog includes a full list of fixes including crashes related to dragon landings, loading screen errors, and multiple Kinect repairs. The blog also includes instructions on how to download the beta update through Steam.

But perhaps the more notable news is that PS3 and PC Dovahkiin may finally get the Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC. Peter Hines, Bethesda marketing executive, said earlier this week that Bethesda may finally have Dawnguard release dates for PS3 and PC users and asked players to just “sit tight”. More information is expected to be released later this week, an excruciating and continued wait for PS3 and PC users. Comments on the Bethesda Blog show frustrated Skyrim fans who are still waiting for Dawnguard news even after the expiration of the Xbox 360, 30 day exclusive DLC.

Perhaps fans would be less agitated if Bethesda released any information about Dawnguard. Being kept in the dark by Bethesda’s tight lips has caused a lot of distrust and anger among their most recent fans while older fans comment they’re used to this sort of treatment. Some comments include “I won’t be buying anymore Bethesda games” and “This is ridiculous. I play this game just as much on my PC as any Xbox guys.” One positive commenter wrote he was happy Bethesda was debugging and “testing” the DLC on Xbox so PS3 and PC users could have a polished version. Hopefully by the end of this week PC and PS3 players’ patience will be rewarded with some solid information.

    I’m not too worried about it. The lack of transparency is extremely annoying, but it really makes no sense as far as marketing for Microsoft is concerned on the subject of paying for exclusivity. I play Skyrim on my MICROSOFT Windows 7 PC. So, I am much less upset at Bethesda for taking the bribe than I am at Microsoft for letting me know that, as a paying customer, I am less important to them than their XBOX customers. As far as XBOX having the extra content for a while exclusively, I don’t really care all that much. PC users have had a ton of amazing mods available for a long time now, while XBOX users have had to suffer through with bugs that Bethesda has not fixed but community modders have.

    I have a PC and an XBOX, so I don’t know what MS was trying to accomplish. It’s not like people are going to rush out and buy an XBOX just so they can buy Skyrim, just so they can buy a DLC just so they can get it sooner than anyone else. Like I wrote above, I have an XBOX, but there is no way I would even go and buy a separate copy just so I could buy the DLC on the XBOX to have it earlier. I just don’t see how this is really going to add any value, publicity wise or even financially, for MS or Bethesda. Plus, it doesn’t help that Pete Hines is a dick. For a guy who gets paid to advertise, he doesn’t do a very good job of keeping his ego and attitude in check. I’m surprised he still has a job.

    They might also tell us we’re not getting Dawnguard at all, considering the “info soon” comment was in response to someone asking “why” the DLC was canceled for PS3 and PC.

    Either way, it’s fairly certain that we’ll know at the end of the week. Or later today, if something is announced at Quakecon.

    Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I use PS3. I’ll just have to hold out hope. Also, I have a Tuxedo Cat and enjoy White Russians. Classy.

    not to be a prick but the 1.7 patch is no longer in beta on pc it went live a few days ago. Also the achievements have been added to steam, people have reported they had 100% of the achievements and now only have 83%, however the new achievements are hidden.

    It’s not only distrust, they claim to have never had announced Dawnguard for any other platform period. Pete Hines put his foot in his mouth when he said that which MADE us upset. This whole “The Xbox360 users get a 30 day exclusive” is a release date enough. I hate to break it to Pete Hines, that IS an announcement. “Xbox users get a 30 day exclusive..” That leaves all of us assuming that it’s coming out later. No clarification in it or not. They need to fix what they broke because as far as Pete Hines goes, news shouldn’t come in the form of a tweet. It should be through magazines and articles on the internet. /end angry rant about Pete Hines.

    I would prefer not to read more news on PS3 Dawnguard until a story gives us new information. So far, in the last week or so, every single post has been a rewrite of what we already know. I am aware that I am now a Dawnguard troll.

    I am really confused about the hole thing, but not really mad because if you think about it they put out a great game and I am not sure how people think. Making games is not so easy to come up with all the things in skyrim. I mean come on know ,there’s so many things to do and i am home with my tuxedo cat too. And I am trying to do all the quest and there are a lot of them and a lot of stuff to do. And I have been waiting like a lot of people,and when I get Dawngaurd I would like it to have all the bugs worked out so I can play the game better because the graphics are great but stiil bug problems. But I still have plenty to do in the game until it comes out. And people should be used to it by know, waited for Diablo 3 for a long time and they kept letting everyone down so Just get used to it, or get over it.

    I was ready for it but i’ll pass no big plenty of other games due soon. People forget that games are a business thats why things are the way they are in my day the creators were artists not money grubbers. I laugh a this ps3 xbox beef companies love it they get more sales both sides are getting the shaft and that goes for pc users as well.If all gamers forget this stupid beef then we all could demand the quality that we spend our money on, I don’t think they’ll shut down the million dollar industry for putting in the extra effort (and no i’m not saying they should just give there stuff away)it’s well past time we all stand up as gamers.

    today i was playing skyrim and volkihar vampires attacked me i dont have the dlc and i play on pc it may be an accidental add in from the new patch. hopefully this means that the patch was designed for the dlc.
