One of the surprise hits coming out of E3 from 2013 were the upcoming Plants vs Zombies titles, created by PopCap Games and featured at the EA booth. Now, the Plants vs. Zombies craze hits a whole new level with the introduction of exclusive headsets, earbuds, and speaker tags featuring the game’s iconic art from Skullcandy and their ASTRO Gaming division. Skullcandy and ASTRO Gaming announced that they are developing several new products including branded headsets, earbuds, and speaker tags to help support upcoming releases for the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, including the upcoming Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, which garnered so much attention at E3.
“Skullcandy and ASTRO Gaming understand that gamers play an unending variety of games, in every imaginable location, across all manner of devices and at the same time expect a consistently high-quality experience from their games and their gear,” said Aron Drayer, Director of Marketing, ASTRO Gaming/Skullcandy Gaming. “ASTRO Gaming and Skullcandy have become the gamers’ choice for high-fidelity audio because we create unique products that function seamlessly across every platform with unsurpassed performance and customizable style. PopCap shares this larger vision of gaming so it’s thrilling for us to partner with them on Plants vs. Zombies, which presents a completely addictive gaming experience that can be enjoyed anywhere and on every platform.”
The exclusively designed speaker tags for the ASTRO A30 and A40 Audio Systems are the first of the new Plants vs. Zombies gaming gear. The speaker tags for both headsets were designed with collaboration from PopCap Games and feature iconic artwork from both Plants vs. Zombies and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. Fans of the franchise are sure to recognize the various plants and zombies seen in the games.
These Plants vs. Zombie speaker tags allow gamers to personalize their A30 and A40 ASTRO Gaming headsets. These tags are magnetically interchangable, so gamers can switch them up if they want to later on. Those gamers that purchase an A30 or A40 can also create their own speaker tags using the ASTRO Customizer web application, or choose from dozens of pre-made tags from highly recognizable game franchises and popular artists.
The ASTRO Gaming Plants vs. Zombies speaker tags are available immediately at their website, with the tags themselves retailing for $19.99 each for the A30, and the Garden Warfare tags for the A40 costing $24.99 each. Bundles including ASTRO A30 headset and the tags run for $209.99 with the ASTRO A40 costing $259.99.
This is an interesting pairing for both franchises. ASTRO Gaming is synonymous with a high-end experience that doesn’t associate itself with casual gaming. The Plants vs. Zombies franchise is one of the staples of the casual gaming genre. With Garden Warfare the franchise certainly is taking a step forward and the pairing seems logical considering the plans that PopCap has for 2014 and beyond. For ASTRO Gaming and Skullcandy, this is nice coup since they will be able to appeal to a wider demographic and potentially elevate some mid-range buyers to their brand. At the very least, it adds another set of iconic and highly recognizable art to their speaker tag selection.
