Show Your True Colors with a New Dark Souls 3 Trailer

Dark Souls 3

Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Dark Souls 3 showing off new elements from the upcoming game.

Titled “True Colors of Darkness”, the trailer gives players a look at a host of new enemies, weapons, environments, and ways to die in Dark Souls 3. The death and dreariness common in the Dark Souls series is accompanied by an eerie version of the song “True Colors” performed by Richie Kohan and Faux Fix.

Dark Souls 3 is not a vast departure from its predecessors such as original Dark Souls or Bloodborne. Players are expected to endure many difficult enemies on their journey which will likely include frequent deaths. However, the marketing for this trailer is a bit different from the typical “prepare to die” mentality of past Souls games. The song may not mesh completely with the spirit of the game (Cyndi Lauper and Phil Collins sang versions of it in the past, after all) but the trailer also gives off a different message.

“Embrace the darkness” is one of the driving themes and messaging behind Dark Souls 3. In the trailer, the player character is seen on the losing end of many fights against gruesome creatures. But as the gameplay continues, the player character is shown defeating their opponents against all odds; implying players will get better as long as they persist.

Dark Souls 3 releases on April 12, 2016 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
