ShadowMan Released on GOG

/ Sep 19th, 2013 No Comments

Shadow Man

The classic third person shooter, ShadowMan has been released for purchase on GOG. The game can be purchased free of DRM and completely optimized for modern Windows operating systems for $5.99.

Included with the release are bonuses including the original manual, two soundtracks, a map of the in-game world and an avatar image. Also included for a limited time is a code to receive a free digital copy of the first issue of the brand new ShadowMan comic series and a $5.99 discount off an official ShadowMan shirt. Both offers will expire Sept. 24.

The release on GOG is due in part to Valiant Entertainment. The company reacquired the rights to the ShadowMan character and their other original characters all of whom were previously held by Acclaim Studios which went bankrupt in 2004.

Originally developed by Acclaim Entertainment and based on the graphic novel series of the same name, Shadow Man is a horror themed action adventure. It focuses on Michael LeRoi: latest in a long line of magical voodoo warriors known as the Shadow Men. With the aid of a voodoo mask embedded in his chest, LaRoi can cast spells and travel between the world of the living (Liveside) and the undead realm of Deadside.

LaRoi must traverse two worlds to acquire powerful voodoo artifacts and confront his past as he attempts to prevent an apocalypse at the hands of a demon by the name of Legion. Further complicating matters is a collection of vile villains known as the Five who have merged into one evil abomination. Among the Five’s ranks, the infamous Jack the Ripper.

The game received mostly positive reviews on release but was largely overshadowed by more prominent titles at the time. Today it has a solid following among gamers. It is especially known for it’s dark story, macabre atmosphere and unique style. Many consider the game to be one of Acclaim Entertainment’s most overlooked titles.

An official trailer of the game can be viewed below courtesy of GOG’s official Youtube channel:
