Saints Row 4 Announced
Deep Silver announced this morning that Saints Row 4, the next chapter in the popular Saints Row franchise, will be released this fall. The Saints Row games have been historically played on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. In this next version of the open-world game, the story of the Third Street Saints will continue as they elevate their status to “leaders of the free world” thanks to the head honcho of the Saints being elected as President of the United States. Saints Row 4 is being developed by Volition and will launch on current-gen consoles as well as PC on August 20, 2013 in North America and three days later to the rest of the world.
In Saints Row 4, a new twist comes to the series in the form of an alien invasion. The aliens teleport the Saints into some sort of “bizarro-Steelport” simulation where they will get to wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from the alien’s top boss, Zinyak. Gamers will have to escape the simulation that’s trapped the Saints crew or die trying.
The Saints Row franchise was one of the most hotly contested assets auctioned off by now defunct publisher THQ. Koch Media, who houses Deep Silver (made famous for their Dead Island franchise), purchased the rights to the Saints Row games and their Chicago-based development group “Volition” for a cool $22.2 million back in January, 2013. Deep Silver did release a YouTube video for the announcement, which can be seen below. For more information about Saints Row 4 stay tuned right here to Gaming Illustrated.
