Initial reports about game capture capabilities on the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles had gamers and media outlets in a tizzy. Early information about the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One indicated that gamers would be unable to capture in-game footage on external devices. Though there are some functions on both consoles that will enable gamers to share screenshots and footage on social network sites, the features that have been announced are limited. Xbox has since announced that the Xbox One will not block game capture attempts from external devices and a recent announcement from PlayStation indicated that HDMI game capture will be available with a future update.
The Roxio Game Capture HD PRO is Xbox One ready for gamers looking to capture early footage on the next-generation console. In addition to the device itself, the HD PRO will include video editing software that will integrate the following features; Integrated voice changer to enable gamers to match their voiceovers to their game, picture-in-picture to create movies with separate video tracks, 90+ transitions and simultaneous uploads of final movies to YouTube and Facebook.
It’s a relief that the next-gen consoles changed their stance on game capture devices. While it’s nice to have basic game capture features integrated into controllers and console apps, gamers today share far more than the occasional screen shot. It remains to be announced when the PS4 will be external game capture capable but at least there is hope in the near future.
