Quantum Break

Remedy Entertainment unveiled the first gameplay for its upcoming Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break.

[adsense250itp]Microsoft‘s press conference at gamescom 2014 set the stage for the world premiere of mulitple aspects from Quantum Break‘s gameplay. Players are given a glimpse at Jack Joyce’s ability to manipulate time.

Joyce possesses the ability to freeze time in multiple ways and use it to his advantage. By stopping time, players can dodge grenades, swiftly move behind different cover to confuse enemies or get in close for a melee attack. Joyce can also shoot a time-freezing “blast” at enemies or objects. Shooting a “frozen” enemy or explosive container multiple times will cause massive damage as each bullet hits at the same time.

Quantum Break features sections in the story where time will freeze completely. During these sections Joyce can walk around and investigate the scene and possibly impact the unfolding action. The demo ends with Joyce facing off against two hulking soldiers who are wearing special suits that make them less vulnerable to time manipulation.

Quantum Break is set to release in 2015.

Quick Take

If Quantum Break maintains the quality of Max Payne and Alan Wake, gamers should not be disappointed. Remedy has proved itself to be fantastic genre storytellers and incredibly talented when it comes to changing up third-person shooter mechanics. Time manipulation looks visually impressive and will hopefully be used appropriately to make both gameplay and plot feel fresh.
