GOG.com is now accepting pre-orders, or season passes, for Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse. The full game will be split into two episodes with the first half released Dec. 4, 2013 and the second sometime during the first quarter of 2014. Pre-orders made of the game during this pre-order period means players will get both without having to pay for them respectively.
A 20% discount is being offered on pre-orders to those who order the game before the release of the first half of the game for a total of $19.99 instead of the regular price of $24. Customers will also be able to have early access to extras bundled with the game including concept art, wallpapers and a piece from the game’s soundtrack.
Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Cure is also set to appear on Steam which is also accepting pre-orders for both episodes for a limited time offer of $19.99. That version of the game will not feature extras and will not be free of DRM unlike the version offered on GOG.com.
Successfully funded through Kickstarter on Sep. 2012, Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse is the highly anticipated fifth game in the multiple award-winning Broken Sword created and developed by Revolution Software. Beginning in 1996 with Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars for DOS, the series is one of the most famous adventure franchises known especially for their engrossing, often conspiracy and mythological themed, stories. They are known also for their great influence on point-and-click adventure gaming.
After the 1997 release of Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror, the series abandoned the trademark animation in favor of 3D graphics. The traditional point and click interface was also abandoned in favor of a more hands on control scheme much to the disdain of many fans and turn off some critics. The developers of Broken Sword: The Serpent’s Curse have said they intend to attempt to return to a more traditional formula with the game.
