In line with the recently-aired Powerpuff Girls television special, Cartoon Network revealed that a game with the same art-style will soon be released. The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville is an indie developed by Luke Schneider of Radiangames, who was tasked by Cartoon Network to develop the game after noticing some of his previous works, including the somewhat-successful 2013 iOS title Bombcats.
The game plays in a “Metroidvania” style with mild hints of RPG elements such as power upgrades, stat boosting and adventure-based navigation throughout a fairly vast 2D world. The graphical style of the girls themselves can be reverted back to their original character designs from the initial series run.
Voice acting from the crew of the original television series is returning to reprise their roles for the game.
According to the developer’s official website, the game is set for release March 14 on all supported Steam platforms. A final price however, has yet to be officially announced.
