Pokémon X and Y Gets Mega Evolved

Pokemon X and Y

Nintendo made some major announcements about Pokémon X and Y at the Pokémon Tournament in Vancouver, Canada on Aug 9. The announcements gave Pokémon fans more reasons to be excited about the Oct 12 release of the 3DS Pokémon titles. The games will include such features as Mega Evolution and Super Training, as well as new Pokémon. It is the first Pokémon game for the 3DS and seems, going by the pre-order sales, that it is on track to be the best selling Nintendo 3DS game. It will also be one of the first Pokémon games to be released worldwide simultaneously.

Mega Evolution is one of the new features for Pokémon X and Y. It enables certain types of Pokémon to change their abilities or elemental-type during a battle. This gives these specific Pokémon an added power boost for a single encounter. After the battle they return to their original state. Mega Evolution involves the use of a mega stone such as of Lucarionite or Blazikenite. Each Pokémon has its own stone and they are hidden in the Kalos region. One of the Pokémon that can activate a Mega Evolution is Ampharos. When it becomes Mega Ampharos it is covered in white fur head to tail and it gains dragon-type abilities along with the electric-type moves that it began with. The most powerful Pokémon in the game, Mewtwo, can be made even more powerful. When evolved, Mewtwo has a streamline appearance that makes it look like it is floating. The special move, Psystrike, helps it to be one of the most powerful Pokémon. The key to unlocking Mega Evolution is through the gym leader of Shalour City, Korrina. The list currently known Mega Evolution eligible Pokémon is: MewTwo, Lucario, Absol, Ampharos, Blaziken, and Mawile.

New in Pokémon X and Y alongside Mega Evolution is the Super Training mini game. This feature allows the players to manage and improve their Pokémon’s strength and abilities. Super Training can only be used when the Pokémon are not in battle and with it, the player can help their Pokémon grow and improve their statistics. This feature is awesome. It is useful if the player ever needs to level a Pokémon quickly, something many players wanted in previous Pokémon games, but was not offered.

There were several new Pokémon announced recently as well. Dedenne is an Electric and a Fairy-type and it communicates with its allies over great distances with radio waves. Bunnelby is a normal-type of Pokémon that has ears that can dig and chop through trees. When Bunnelby digs into the ground, it is able to avoid attacks. Skiddo is a grass-type of Pokémon and evolves into a Gogoat. Gogoat gets along well with humans and can carry them or things on its back. It also has the ability to sense feelings of the trainers as they grab on to its horns. Also, well known characters like the Professor, will challenge the player from time to time.

Pokémon fans have been waiting a while for this game. It changes the familiar original 2D style games to 3D. They are releasing Special Editions of the 3DS to fuel the Pokémon frenzy. This only proves that the franchise is still strong around the world and when the Pokémon X and Y come out worldwide on Oct 12, it will be a major event.
