Alright all you Super Smash Bros fans, if you thought that was the only game of its kind, think again. Sony Santa Monica Studios (God of War) and SuperBot Entertainment are putting together their own twist on the mascot starring fighter game, and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is their result. In this multi-player cross over title, a cast of Playstation exclusive characters battle it out for nothing but glory. To be released October 23, 2012 for the Playstation 3 and Vita, this game is surely to be a hit!

Similar to Super Smash Bros, up to four players can choose a character to fight in all out battle on highly detailed and animated background stages. Some of these stages were recognized from games like God of War, Buzz! and Little Big Planet. With the first footage and characters announced at E3 2012, developers were able to display the chaos and fun mayhem that PSASBR brings for fans. The first cast announced at E3 included Kratos, Sly Cooper, Fat Princess, PaRappa, Colonel Radec and Sweet Tooth. Nathan Drake and Big Daddy (Bioshock) were also announced as an E3 exclusive. Soon after, Heihachi and Toro Inoue were added to the cast. And finally, at the Comic Con 2012 panel, two more characters were added: Cole Macgrath (Infamous) and Jak and Daxter (played as one character). With a lot of time left until the game is available, I wouldn’t be surprised if more characters are added to that roster.

Players will have to be on their toes when playing such dynamic stages and aggressive characters, but be cautious of the items that fall as well. These items, such as grenades and shields, will help a player be victorious! The one gamers will want to keep an eye out for is the level-up orb. These orbs will float around the stage, making characters clamor for its power. Once taken, a character will have the ability to perform a super move. However, it is advisable to save them for a super level 3 move. With each added orb, the power is greater. Strategically, it’d be better to save all three to crush all the other players on the stage.

When developing the game, Sony Santa Monica was first going to give the project to Naughty Dog (Uncharted Series). However, Naughty Dog was in the hustle and bustle of creating their new title, The Last of Us. It was then that SuperBot Entertainment was formed, specifically to focus on the development of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. The dedication and high pressured preparation of the game really shows in the elaborate detail and eye-catching colors of the gameplay. I know players were excited seeing their favorite characters together in one fight; characters from the original Playstation console to the PS3. Being able to play with up to three friends will keep each game different, and the PS3 is definitely in need of more offline multiplayer titles!

One of the biggest perks to the game, as shown at E3 and the convention floor at Comic Con, players on both the PS3 and PS Vita will be able to play together in the same game, expanding the audience and gameplay for thousands of gamers. Still need an incentive? Well, at participating retailers, you will receive costumes for all your All-Stars when you pre-order now. I mean, what else is better than seeing Kratos with hair or Big Daddy with a baseball as a head?
