Pikmin 4 Revealed, Nearly Complete

Pikmin 4 is in development and closing in on being complete according to an interview with Nintendo‘s head designer Shigeru Miyamoto.
“It’s actually very close to completion,” Miyamoto told Eurogamer in an interview conducted back in July. “Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”
Nintendo later confirmed Miyamoto’s statement saying, “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.” Neither Miyamoto nor Nintendo specified what platform Pikmin 4 would be released on. It’s possible the game is in development for the Nintendo NX, the console in development which no one knows about. It could possibly be released for the Wii U, both the Wii U and NX, or even the 3DS.
Eurogamer confirmed the interview with Miyamoto occured in July but was embargoed until today. So, in a uniquely Nintendo way, Pikmin 4 was officially confirmed as existing. Pikmin 3, the last entry in the series, was released for the Wii U in August of 2013.
While this is one of the more backwards way to reveal a game, fans of Pikmin will likely be pleased by the announcement of the next entry in the series. What’s interesting is that Miyamoto and Nintendo confirmed the game was in development and close to completion a month after E3, indicating it should be in some playable/viewable form. Considering the lackluster reception the company received for its E3 showings, Pikmin 4 would definitely had been a highlight, especially with the lack of any Zelda reveal. But Nintendo doesn’t want to show off anything that’s so far from completion, right?
