Pac-Man Champ Edition (XBOX 360)

/ Jul 16th, 2007 No Comments

SYNOPSIS:
PAC-MAN Championship Edition on XBOX LIVE brings you back to the glory days of 1980s gaming in a whole new and HD environment.  With the first brand new and never played before levels hitting the PAC-MAN world in 26 years, you can now enjoy an all new flavor of this timeless gaming classic.  With new levels that dynamically change shape during play, and armed with all new timed game modes and HD graphics, PAC-MAN has never been better.
FEATURE LIST
* A brand new game: PAC-MAN Championship Edition was created specially for the first-ever Xbox 360™ PAC-MAN World Championship held in New York City in 2007. Now you can play the Championship Edition on Xbox LIVE®.

* New mazes and game modes: All-new mazes feature great gameplay challenges. Try the Darkness Course where maze walls are invisible and only the area around PAC-MAN and the ghosts can be seen. Or check out the Freeway Course, a high-speed challenge where everything moves at twice normal speed.

* Enhanced environments: The traditional PAC-MAN look has been completely updated with a new, modern high-definition look and new soundtracks.

* Achievements: Earn 12 new achievements and up to 200 Gamerscore points while taking on the challenge of PAC-MAN Championship Edition.

GRAPHICS
PAC-MAN has simply never looked better.  Obviously there’s no huge 3D rendering going on, but the levels look fantastic.  There’s great special effects when you eat the ghosts, or when time expires.  The HD graphics look great and really brings you into the 16:9 world of widescreen high definition television.  Obviously, this is a huge upgrade than before and brings this classic game into the 21st century.
SOUND
There is an all new soundtrack that really goes well with the new “timed” gaming experience of PAC-MAN.  The sound effects that go along with actions in the game, like eating the ghosts, making points, revealing new parts of the level, and other such accomplishments are done well.
GAME PLAY
We've all played PAC-MAN to death right?  Well maybe not these punk 14 year olds that I see run mad smack and end up crying like little babies when they lose … but for us veterans of the gaming world, PAC-MAN is a staple of our existence right next to the American Flag and Apple Pie.

This new edition which features the first new levels in 26 years is a perfect example of the intelligent thinking of Microsoft and XBOX LIVE.  Here's a game that simply isn't anything huge, and something we really wouldn't buy at EB Games for $29, but at the same time for some points on XBOX LIVE we'd be stupid not to buy it.  The game is, flat out, way more fun that we ever expected it to be.  With a bunch of friends it gets ridiculously competitive.

The new championship, challenge, and extra modes offer up timed levels where you run a mad scramble to get as many points as possible, while staying alive, to get the high score.  Naturally, all high scores are recorded on XBOX LIVE for you to view.

ONLINE / MULTIPLAYER
There really isn't a multiplayer outside of checking scores on XBOX LIVE.  From a "friends getting together to play" perspective it's a lot of fun.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
PAC-MAN Championship edition is the first original game on XBOX LIVE we've seen that gets the absolute stamp of approval for purchase.  It's a lot of fun to play, is fairly inexpensive, and you'll get a ton of hours of great gameplay out of it, not just for you but for the entire family.
