Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Young Horses‘ Creative Director Kevin Zuhn announced on the PlayStation Blog that Octodad: Dadliest Catch releases for the PlayStation 4 on April 22.

The game will be available digitally for $14.99. PlayStation Plus subscribers can buy the game for a 20 percent discounted price of $11.99. The discount will last through April 29, the first week of the game’s release.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch follows the titular Octodad, a normal father with a loving family who coincidentally is also an octopus. As Octodad, players will flail around environments controlling his arms and legs as he attempts to accomplish various objectives. Octodad spends most of his days trying to conceal his true nature to his family. As a sequel to the original Octodad, Dadliest Catch sends the father and his family on a trip to the aquarium. There, Octodad must deal with marine biologists who can easily see through his disguise, a crazed sushi chef that wants to make him dinner, and his increasingly suspicious wife.

The PS4 version includes support for new controller configurations such as the PlayStation Move, double PlayStation Moves and a PlayStation Move plus Nav controller. A local co-op mode will allow up to four players to each take control of one of Octodad’s limbs. Those without PlayStation Move controllers will be able to control the game just as well with the DualShock 4.

Quick Take

When Octodad took the stage at E3 2013, it received an incredible reception and tons of laughter. The bizarre game looked like a perfect fit for Sony’s focus on indie games for their then upcoming console. Since launch, the PS4 has given a console home to several indie titles. The PC release of Octodad received a good deal of acclaim and it looks as if the PS4 version is going to be just as humorous and entertaining.
