Nordic Games has announced that a new title in the MX vs. ATV franchise is currently in development. MX vs. ATV Supercross is slated for release in the first half of 2014 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and Linux. This will be the 5th installment in a popular series that has seen over 10 million units sold over the last 9 years.
It is not surprising that a new title in this franchise is under development. Nordic has been quietly searching for and recruiting members of the original MX vs. ATV development team that were previously employed by THQ since their acquisition of the franchise in April. The new development team will be lead by Ken George and will contain many veterans of the MX vs. ATV franchise. Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games states “We’re all devoted fans of the MX vs. ATV games, so being able to play a part in continuing this brilliant series is a dream come true. We’re absolutely committed to ensuring Ken and his team receive the best support and the freedom to create the games they love making – and we’re confident that the series will continue to grow from strength to strength. Supercross is just the start of our MX vs. ATV plans. 2014 and beyond will prove to be a hell of a ride.”
Since acquiring the title, Nordic has been working hard to satisfy the cult-like fans of the game. THQ’s closure caused many issues with both MX vs. ATV Reflex and MX vs. ATV Alive online functionality causing fans to flock to the forums in droves, reaching out to Nordic for help. Nordic has since addressed some of the issues by first returning online multiplayer to MX vs. ATV Reflex (for PC) and is now working to bring back features such as multiplayer on consoles and the Motoclub Depot.
